New Feature: Caching

Ka-ching! Caching!

This week brings a very important behind-the-scenes update to our site: caching! This will greatly help reduce server load and improve site speed, especially once we open registration for Open Beta. However, this great feature is a risky one, as bugs are often hidden waaaaay deep in the code, so please help us by notifying us of any problems you find!

I’m very excited by this speedy progress. We’re well on our way to opening registration in the fall for Open Beta! We’ve been meeting our deadlines at approximately the pace we estimated, with some wiggle room in between major feature updates, which we’ve used to adopt some user suggestions for improvement. (Including a change to the Cooking page, which will add Kith dialog to make it feel more like you’re cooking together!)

As I’ve said before, we are deeply appreciative of your feedback and troubleshooting. :) Thank you all again for your help and patience as we work together on making Tattered Weave the best it can be!

Color me this!

Time for some feature updates! Forums and Messages may look a bit different now. We’ve added a Color button to the Forums so that you can quickly type in the font color you want. (No color picker, as that’s a bit more complex to code, but maybe we can consider it for someday in the future.) Previewing on the Forums has also been fixed, so that now you will see the last few replies instead of being thrown back to the first page of the thread.

Within your one-on-one User Messages (under Inbox), we’ve done some reorganizing and would love to hear feedback! Messages now paginate after 15 replies. Some users suggested sorting the posts from newest on top to oldest below, so that clicking the notification to your messages always takes you to the latest part of the conversation on page 1. I’ve tried that out here, but please tell me what you think! Better? Worse? Do you have other suggestions? (Unfortunately, the way that Messages is built, it’d take a LOT of extra effort to link to the exact reply in a Message thread, so that isn’t an option. Drat!)

Remember to please report any problems to the Technical Support Forum. Your browser version is very helpful information if we have to troubleshoot a problem. I'd also like to ask, as a favor, if you could try to replicate a problem so that I know whether it was a strange one-time little bug or whether it is reoccurring for multiple users; this also helps me to sleuth my way to the source of the problem. The more details, the better!

Some long Hair and a shoooort Dress!

I hope everyone's evening is going well. I've been working on some new items for all of you over at my Tailored Fashions and I noticed that there have been some requests for more tops to be layered with the jackets. It's not much, pun intended, but I have a new Strapless Dress that I think stands out beautifully on its own or layered under something else for a more covered look.
I also- oh...um. Actually, I think that will be it for tonight. Excuse me.

I’m back!

Hi again, everyone! I’m back from vacation and ever-so-vaguely tanned. It’s good to be back and working on the project again. We’ve got a lot of big things in the pipeline, including the Cooking system and caching to help reduce the server load and bring you faster playing speeds!
In the meantime, I’m working on an update to the admin side of Quests so that it’ll be easier for us to create and manage Quests behind the scenes. Expect to see a bunch of Quest updates over the next month as we get that in place and upload enough for every NPC to become your best friends!

Discussions with Lightsky about the few remaining bugs in the games and in the restock button have led us to a few conclusions. For one, we want to implement a major code change that will make the restock button AND the Shards & Gems on the header update in real time.
Due to the complexity of this change, we won’t be implementing it until sometime after Open Beta, but I wanted to let y’all know that we’ve figured out a solution and we’re merely holding off until a later time. So we won’t need any bug reports on the restock button until we implement that change! Thank you all for helping us isolate the cause of the problem and work through that fix.

Re: games. I’ve corrected 3/8 of the Hoof It dances to the shorter time, so progress is being made! I hope to get it to you guys by the end of the month, though I can’t make any promises. Bug fixes always come first on my priority list. :P Lightsky made a few suggestions for the error message code so that we can better understand why these problems are occurring. Once we know why a problem happens, it’s that much easier to create a solution! Again, thank you all for testing the games with us and reporting as many details as possible. You’ve been unbelievably helpful with troubleshooting. :)

Ain’t No Strings on Me!

Hey everybody! Check it out, I got puppets now! At the Arcade I’ll be stocking some new Finger Puppets, Hand Puppets, and a Puppetshow Stage for all your puppet show needs! Let’s see those puppet rock-operas I know you’re all dreaming of!
